Software-layer vendors do not make a dock. They orchestrate someone else's. FlytBase is the clearest example, running operations across DJI docks as a software product. Votix sells a layer that integrates docks alongside its own streaming and flight products. If you already own hardware, this is the group that matters to you.
Hardware-only vendors sell the box and nothing above it. Hextronics builds battery-swap docks for several airframes, Heisha sells its DNEST line, Dronehub licenses its ground layer to other manufacturers, JOUAV and H3 Dynamics build their own. Buying here leaves the software question entirely open, which is sometimes exactly what a buyer wants.

The more useful development for anyone budgeting is not a new dock. It is who now owns the companies making them.
In July 2026 BRINC closed a $125 million round led by Motorola Solutions, with a stated ambition of putting a response drone at every police and fire station in the United States. Motorola was the last of the large public-safety software companies without a drone position. It now has two: that investment, and a deployment in Summerville, South Carolina where Nokia's drone networking runs alongside Motorola's CAPE software.
Put beside the others, the pattern is hard to miss. Axon works with Skydio and owns Dedrone. Versaterm owns DroneSense and Aloft. Flock owns Aerodome. Motorola now holds the BRINC position. Every major company selling dispatch and evidence software to agencies has acquired or invested in a drone stack.
For a buyer that has one practical consequence: the drone decision and the software decision are converging, and a dock bought today increasingly arrives attached to a preference about which ecosystem your video lives in.
Whichever group you buy from, one question tends to survive the purchase: who outside the operating team can actually see the flight while it is happening.
Dock software is built to run the aircraft. It handles scheduling, battery cycles, flight execution and the operator's own console. That is a different job from distribution, which is getting a live picture to an incident commander in a vehicle, a client who is paying for the flight, or a duty manager three cities away, on a phone, without an install and without a seat in the drone platform.
Some full-stack products carry part of this inside their own ecosystem. It works well when everyone who needs to watch is already inside that ecosystem, and less well when they are not, which describes most mutual-aid situations, most contractor relationships, and most of the moments where somebody senior asks to see what is going on.
