Nebli Marine concepts

The words Nebli Marine uses, what each one means, and the term you will see on screen in Spanish.

Who this is for: anyone starting with Nebli Marine, and anyone reading its exports.

Where your work lives

Organisation (organización). Your organisation: a city, an agency or a research institution. Everything you see, export or are billed for stays inside it.

Coastline (litoral). A named stretch of shore in your organisation, with a time zone and an area drawn on the map. Times on screen use the coastline's time zone. Exports carry UTC with the offset.

Campaign (campaña). One bounded piece of field work on a coastline: its dates, the drifters released and the people on it. A campaign is what you export and what a funder reads.

Launch (lanzamiento). A batch of drifters released together inside a campaign and recovered minutes or hours later.

What is in the water

Drifter (boya de deriva). A floating unit that reports its position, a few measurements and a mat-presence signal. It also logs everything to its own storage card at full rate. A drifter recovered and released again stays the same drifter.

Gateway (gateway). The relay on a vessel or a mast: a gateway radio plus the gateway program on a computer. It collects readings from drifters in range and forwards them to Nebli Marine.

Repeater (repetidor). A raised or airborne relay that extends the range. It reports only its own position.

LoRa radio mesh (malla). How drifters reach the gateway. A drifter keeps its last 24 hours of reports. When a drifter has been out of range, a gateway that stays within range long enough collects that backlog, so up to a day out of range loses nothing. The backlog does not survive a restart or a flat battery.

What a drifter reports

Reading (lectura). One value from one drifter at one moment. A reading is never edited after it arrives.

Position (posición). Where a drifter was, kept as a reading with its fix quality. A weak fix is drawn as weak, and a position without a fix is kept as such.

Speed and course. How fast the drifter moved over the ground and in which direction. This is the drifter's drift, not a measurement of the current.

Sea state and wave period. The wave height and the dominant wave period around the drifter, computed on board.

Mat presence (presencia de mancha). Whether the drifter is inside or outside a floating mat, read from its light sensors. Out of water (fuera del agua) is a third state, for a drifter on deck or lifted, and never counts as being in a mat. The moments a drifter enters and leaves a mat are marked on its page.

Time and gaps

Device time and arrival time (hora del dispositivo, hora de llegada). Every reading carries both: when the drifter recorded it and when it reached Nebli Marine. Charts use the device time, so a reading that arrives late still lands in the right place.

Gap (hueco). A silence in the readings. It is shown as a gap and never filled in, on the map or in an export.

Suspect (sospechosa). A flag on a reading that should not be trusted as it stands, with the reason: the drifter's clock is off, or the value is outside what that measurement can sensibly be. The reading is kept and dimmed, never dropped.

Status

Reporting (reportando), stale (sin novedades), silent (en silencio). Set by the last reading to arrive. A drifter is reporting until three reporting intervals pass with nothing, then stale, then silent after a day. A drifter reports every thirty seconds by default, or every sixty where the campaign is set to a longer interval.

Recovered (recuperado), lost (perdido), retired (retirado). Marks a person puts on a drifter. A person's mark wins over what the readings say. A retired drifter cannot be released again.

Getting drifters into a campaign

Unclaimed node (nodo sin adoptar). A drifter, gateway or repeater that has reported but has no label yet. Its readings are kept from the first one.

Adopt (adoptar). Give an unclaimed node its label in a campaign. Adopting a recovered or lost drifter releases it again.

Credential (credencial). What a gateway uses to send readings into one campaign. Its secret is shown once, and an administrador can revoke it at any time.

Using what you collected

Source (origen). How a reading reached Nebli Marine: through the mesh.

Export (exportación). A complete copy of a campaign, a launch, a drifter or a time range, as CSV and GeoJSON, with no fee.

Audit (auditoría). The record of who did what, and when. It is never rewritten, and it comes with your exports.

Method (método). How a value is collected or computed: the formula, its inputs, its source and its version. Every value links to its method.
