Who this is for: the field scientist on the vessel or the beach, and anyone watching a campaign from a desk.
Before you start: you are signed in and your campaign has a gateway running (Getting started). Anyone in the organisation can read both screens. Adopting, marking and running launches need an operador or an administrador.
Fleet: what needs you
Fleet lists every node of the campaign: drifters, gateways and repeaters. It updates as readings arrive, with no reload. The heading counts the nodes that need attention, which are the unclaimed, silent and stale ones, and the line under it gives the totals and the launch in progress.
The list is ordered worst first:
- Unclaimed: new hardware that has reported but has not been adopted yet.
- Silent: nothing has arrived for a day.
- Stale: nothing has arrived for three reporting intervals.
- Reporting: readings are arriving.
- Recovered, Lost and Retired: the nodes a person has marked.
Status follows the time readings arrive at Nebli Marine, not the drifter's own clock. A mark wins over the readings: a drifter you mark lost stays lost, even if it reports again, until you adopt it again. Its readings are kept.
Each row shows:
| Column | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Label / hardware id | The label you gave it, with its hardware id underneath, and weak fix when its last position came from a weak satellite fix. An unclaimed node shows its hardware id. |
| Kind | Drifter, gateway or repeater. |
| Status · age | The status and how long since its last reading, or the time of the mark. |
| Launch | The launch it is in, on deck, or deployed since a date. |
| Last reading | The drifter's own time for its latest reading, and how long ago that was. |
| Battery | In volts. |
| Satellites | How many satellites its last position used. |
| Firmware | The firmware version it reports. |
Filter the list by Status, Kind or Launch. If no node matches, choose Clear filters.
Adopt a new node
A node appears in Fleet as Unclaimed the first time it reports through one of your gateways. Nothing has to be registered beforehand, and its readings are kept from the first one.
- Choose Adopt on its row.
- Give it a Label. Nebli Marine suggests the next free label when the node's kind has a numbered series, such as D-13 after D-12.
- Confirm. The node takes its label at once, on Fleet and on the map.
Mark a node
On a computer, each row has Open, which opens the drifter's page, and a ⋯ menu with the marks. On a phone, tap a card to see the same actions.
Drifters can be marked recovered or lost; any node can be retired.
- Recovered: the drifter is back on deck. Its readings stay, and it leaves the live map.
- Lost: the drifter is not expected back. Its readings stay, and it leaves the live map. It stays lost even if it reports again.
- Retire: the node is out of service for good. It leaves the fleet and cannot be adopted again.
Each mark asks when it happened and offers the current time, and you can add a note. The mark is recorded with your name. To release a recovered or lost drifter again, adopt it into a campaign; that clears the mark.
Start launch and End launch are on this screen too. Drifters in the field explains launches.
Data stream: is the fleet still reporting?
Data stream shows readings as they arrive, newest first. At the top it says how long ago the last reading arrived and which node sent it, for example "Last reading 40 seconds ago". That age keeps counting, so a fleet that has gone quiet shows it.
Each reading shows:
- the node and the channel, such as battery or position;
- the value with its unit;
- two times: the drifter's own time, and the time the reading arrived;
- where it came from: mesh for a reading received over the radio mesh;
- its quality: raw, or suspect with the reason, clock off or out of range.
A suspect reading is still shown and kept. Nebli Marine never drops or changes a reading.
Narrow the list with the Campaign, Launch and Node filters. Open node opens the drifter's page, and History opens its chart for that channel.
Pause holds the list still while you read. The line at the top says how many readings arrived in the meantime; Resume adds them. The screen keeps the newest 300 readings. Older ones are on each drifter's page and in exports.
When a gateway goes offline
If a gateway loses its internet connection, a line at the top of Data stream names the gateway and the time it went offline. Nothing is lost: the gateway keeps every reading and sends them when its connection returns.
If the screen itself loses its connection, it says it is reconnecting. Readings that arrive meanwhile appear when it is back.
On a phone
Both screens are designed for a phone first. Fleet shows each node as a card with its status and its key facts, and Adopt under an unclaimed node; tap a card for its actions. Data stream shows one reading per card in large type. Use the bottom bar to move between Map, Fleet, Stream and Campaigns.
